Our mother left her earthly family to begin her adventures with her heavenly family on Friday evening, November 27, 2015.

Beth Spencer Robison was born Tuesday, August 30, 1932, in Montpelier, Idaho, the daughter of Seymour Horne and Sarah Sophronia Quayle Spencer. She joined a loving family with two older sisters and a brother, Helen, Bob and Norma. When Beth was four, her mother passed away shortly after their youngest sister Joan was born. The Spencers are a musical family, and Beth developed and passed on a deep love for musical appreciation and performance.

The Spencer family moved to Fillmore, Utah, where Beth grew up, graduating with the Millard High School Class of 1950. During her high school years, she caught the eye of a young returned missionary, E Doyle Robison.  They were married on Thursday, August 30, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Mom and Dad raised their family in the east, making homes and friends in Ohio, New Jersey, Minnesota, Maryland, and New York, before returning to Utah. As she managed her home and raised her children, Mom continued her studies, culminating with the completion of a Master’s Degree from BYU in Recreational Management in 1986.

Mom’s life centered around service, in the home, church, and community. She served as Director of Project Read in Provo UT, Mission Mom for the England London Mission, Assistant Matron of the Stockholm Temple, LDS Employment Specialist, and volunteer in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.

Alonzo Franklin Robison, 76, a former mayor of Fillmore, died at his residence 66 W. 2nd North, Logan, Monday at 2:50 p.m. of causes incident to age.

A son of Franklin Alonzo Robison and Eleanor Pratt Robison, he was born at Fillmore, January 15, 1873.

He had lived in Fillmore most of his life, where he engaged in stock-raising. After retiring he moved to Manti, where he did temple work in the Manti temple. He later moved to Logan where he also was an active temple worker.

Mr. Robison married Amelia Peterson in the LDS Endowment house, Salt Lake City, May 29, 1895. She died Aug. 8, 1930, and he married Mrs. Mary Napper of Logan, March 17, 1937 in Fillmore.

Surviving are two sons, A. Wayne and Melvin Robison, Fillmore; two daughters, Mrs. Vernell R. Steggell, Salt Lake City and Mrs. Evelyn Bailey, Los Angeles; eight brothers and sisters, Parker P., Alfred and Harmel Robison, Mrs. Herma R. King, Mrs. Linda Young, Mrs. Carrie Despain, Mrs. Olea Davies and Mrs. Ruth Peterson; 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; also several half brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were conducted in Logan Wednesday, after which the body was brought to Fillmore for additional services and burial in the Fillmore Cemetery. An account of these services will appear in next weeks issue.

Funeral services for Alonzo Franklin Robison, 76, were held in the Fillmore Ward Friday, February 11, 1949, under the direction of Bishop Von Taylor. They were as follows:

                   SEYMOUR H. SPENCER.

Seymour H. Spencer, the popular county superintendent of schools in Bear Lake county, is a native son of that county, born in Paris, July 16, 1888 , his parents being George B. and Leonora (Horne) Spencer. The father was born in Massachusetts and the mother Utah, but both took up their residence in Bear Lake county, Idaho, many years ago. In 1849 George B. Spencer crossed the plains to Utah, where he worked at farming and later acquired a tract of land, which he operated until 1874, when he removed to Bear Lake county, Idaho. Here he made a desert entry, and bought land which he improved and cultivated, operating the same place ever since. He now lives practically retired having reached the age of eighty years. In his time he held a number of public offices and was always very active in politics. He served as treasurer of Bear Lake county, as judge of the probate court and as sheriff. He has always been active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was in the bishopric of one of the Paris wards for some time and filled  a three year mission in Switzerland, Germany and France. His wife is still living.

Seymour H. Spencer was reared and educated in Paris and was the first male graduate of the Fielding Academy of Paris, there being five girls and himself graduated in 1909. He then taught school in Paris for four years and in the country for one year, following which he spent two and one-half years in the University of Utah, from which he was graduated with the degree of B. A. He then assumed the duties of superintendent of schools, to which office he was elected in the fall of 1916 and reelected in 1918. Mr. Spencer is a member of the Paris city council, with which he has been connected for several years. He is first counselor to Bishop Morris D. Low, of Paris second ward, and has held various other offices in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has interests in farming and cattle raising, in both of which he has met with considerable success. He is a strong supporter of the democratic party and active in political work. He takes an earnest interest in all matters pertaining to the welfare of the community in which he resides.

Norma Spencer Beckstrand

1930 ~ 2014

Our feisty, dynamic, wonderful wife, mother, and friend Norma Spencer Beckstrand passed away peacefully at her home on March 6, 2014. Norma was born on July 2, 1930 to Sarah Sophronia Quayle and Seymour Horne Spencer in Montpelier, Idaho. She grew up in Fillmore, Utah. From the day she was born, Norma hit the ground running. Before graduating from Millard High School in 1948, where she was co-valedictorian, she was the first Utah Girls' State Governor.

Norma married the love of her life, Gordon Lynn Beckstrand, on June 16, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were always on the move, Norma working numerous jobs providing the financial resources necessary for Gordon to obtain his degrees, touching countless lives wherever they lived: Meadow, UT; Castle Dale, UT; Ithaca, NY; Madison, WI; Logan, UT; Richfield, UT; East Lansing, MI; Fort Collins, CO; Washington DC; Mogadishu, Somalia; Cairo, Egypt; Leeds, UT; Alpine, UT; and Lehi, UT.

Norma loved working as a realtor and assisted the LDS Church in purchasing the first mission home for the Lansing Michigan Mission in 1973. One of her greatest desires was to earn her college degree, which she did at age 55, with honors, from BYU in University Studies.

Norma spent her life serving others. She directed, managed, and produced innumerable community and church productions such as "Oliver" and "The Stingiest Man in Town." She served in the LDS Young Women's program for 42 years; culminating with her 7th time as ward Young Women's president at the age of 72. She and Gordon served four LDS missions together: Co-Directors, St. George Member Locator Center; Guides, St. George Historical Sites;Coordinators, St. George Temple Baptistry; Missionaries, St. George Temple Visitors' Center.

Ivins, UT - Robert (Bob) William Spencer, age 83, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at his home in Ivins, UT. He was born March 9, 1927, in Montpelier, ID, to Seymour Horne and Sarah Sophronia Quayle Spencer. Bob married Audrey Jeanette Sparks on September 8, 1952, in the Salt Lake Temple. After losing his mother at the age of nine, Bob’s father moved his young family to Fillmore, UT, where Bob and his sisters spent the remainder of their childhood. He served in the military with an honorable discharge and later served a mission in Toronto, Canada. Bob attended BYU for two years and also attended the University of Utah for one year. Bob and Audrey made their first home in Salt Lake City and later moved to Bountiful. He was a member of the LDS church and actively served in many positions, including twelve years as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple.

Bob started playing the trumpet in dance bands at the age of fourteen. He also played the trombone and enjoyed singing. He loved his profession as a part-time musician and continued to play and sing most of his life. His work as a manufacturer’s representative required a lot of travel. In order to be home more, Bob consulted with his family and decided to purchase laundromats.

He is survived by: his loving wife, Audrey; 5 daughters, Jan (Doug) Weaver of Grand Junction, CO, Terri Tchernoivanov of Gilbert, AZ, Laurie Spencer of Salt Lake City, UT, Kelly (Mike) Angus of Roosevelt, UT, Sara (Bryce) Cook of Mesa, AZ; son, Craig (Donna) Spencer of St. George, UT; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Norma (Gordon) Beckstrand of Alpine, UT, Beth (Doyle) Robison of Highland, UT, and Joan (Claire) McKee of St. George, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helen Spencer Whatcott.
